Tennis Yellow is a lifestyle brand that focuses on the “why” of why you participate in the sport and tries to align with the “what” you hope to gain from playing tennis.
Just like the color, “tennis yellow” or “optic yellow” some people see it as bright yellow and others say it is green. Everyone will need different things from the sport of tennis. Here at Tennis Yellow, we want to highlight all of the many fun, interesting and beautiful elements of tennis.
The roots of the game of tennis start in 12th century France as a handball game. The name of tennis came from the French word, “tenez” which means ‘take!’ or ‘receive!’ and was called out by the server before the ball was served into play. In 1870, the game of tennis got formalized into a sport with rules and shape. The color yellow did not come to the tennis equation until David Attenborough, a BBC broadcaster, rallied to have Wimbledon broadcasted in 1972. It was difficult to track the original white ball especially against the white lines on the court, so the International Tennis Federation (ITF) spearheaded a change to a yellow ball. Of course Wimbledon being very particular about tradition, did not adapt the yellow ball until 1986.
The sport of tennis is more than learning how to discipline your mind and body to compete, it is also about friendships, travel, fashion and health. At any age, tennis can be enjoyable and full of purpose. Ask any player, and there will almost always be a clear reason as to why they first felt inclined to pick up a tennis racket. Tennis Yellow looks forward to creating a space where players can share what those reasons are for playing and why the sport is part of their life.
Whether one is playing socially, or competing in tournament or league play, we strive to bring value to players and fans alike. Here at Tennis Yellow, we aim to promote the sport of tennis and bring value to those that follow along through sharing the rich history of tennis, product reviews and destination highlights.
Tennis Yellow is the creation of Katri Koehle and Lindsey Ramage, always friends and often, doubles partners.
Who we Are
Hello! This is Katri, founder and co-owner of Tennis Yellow.
If I am not in my happy space, on the tennis court, then I am planning my next opportunity to hit. In 2015 I started taking lessons and playing in drills, only to quickly join a team and started to play USTA league.
For me, tennis is more than just hitting on the court. It is exercise, friendships, sunshine, travel, history, mental and physical discipline and of course… tennis fashion. There are so many things that I love about the sport of tennis, but I suppose what I love most about learning to compete as an adult, is learning how to conquer anxiety and become fearless. I have tennis to thank for teaching me that lesson.
Finding myself, a native Texan, living in the mountains of Utah, I felt alone but with the chance to reinvent myself. I went from being a PTA volunteer, cooking, crafting and bookclub kind of gal… to a tennis fanatic that loves learning everything there is to know about the game of tennis.
I enjoy working as a site director for Utah USTA tournaments, and I am certified to work as a USTA Official. I currently serve on the Utah Community Outreach Committee and enjoy doing my part to be an ambassador and promoter of the beautiful game of tennis.
Whether I am playing a match, improving my game by taking lessons, hitting for fun, watching advanced athletes competing or traveling to watch a pro tournament, I am game for more tennis!
Tennis is more than a game, it is a lifestyle. Come along and join the fun.
