Making a Racquet in December

A monthly update for the Tennis Yellow lifestyle.

USTA Ratings are Announced

2025 NTRP Ratings

All 2025 NTRP Ratings will be posted by December 3rd. I know that some players will receive their ratings a few days earlier, but no fear… all will be live and ready to be seen by December 3rd. The months leading up to December can be a roller coaster for the league player that is anxious to advance a level or concerned about who will be on their team in the following year. For me, it is nice to have the ratings out and to have the ratings roller coaster come to a slowdown.

Holiday parties & perfect gifts to bring

spending time with my tennis friends off of the court

One of my favorite parts of being on a tennis team is getting to spend time with my tennis friends off of the court. Often it is the case that teams I have been on will hold a holiday party at the end of the year. Usually that party will consist of fun food, a white elephant party and sometimes some party games. This is what our party looked like last year.

What to wear from court to coffee shop

“Look great, play great.”

If you happen to be the tennis fanatic in question, share this link with your people so that they can get some tennis inspiration for you. There is something for everyone in these links, so it makes it so that you will have more time on the tennis court and less time pouring through all of the resources to find cool court and court adjacent gifts!

One of my favorite expressions is, “Look great, play great.”  Winter months often means that dressing in layers is a necessity. When I play in the winter months it can be freezing outside, but the temperature can be warm in the bubble or on the indoor courts. Sometimes, we layer up and play in the cold. Make sure to wear layers so that you can keep your extremities warm and still be able to move as well as possible. Here are some “court to coffee shop looks” that are cozy and still able to enjoy an active life.

Activities to enjoy during colder winter months

time to explore some cross training and additional activities

While I always enjoy time on the tennis court, in the cold months, court time can be tricky to get. That makes it a great time to explore some cross training and additional activities. I have been enjoying some yoga, barre class and even Zumba. Year long I try to incorporate weight training, but during the colder months it is a great opportunity to branch out. Here are some of the looks that I enjoy wearing as I branch out from the tennis court and try some new activities.

Indian Wells 2025!

PNB Paribas Open in Indian Wells

Indian Wells 2025!

I know that it seems like there is lots of time, but if you are wanting to attend the PNB Paribas Open in Indian Wells, get your tickets now. This is one of my all time favorite tournaments to attend. When you attend this tournament, you get to see both the ATP and the WTA players compete at the beautiful Indian Wells Tennis Garden and there is always great tennis to watch.  I especially enjoy watching the practice courts and the warm up field. You get to see the players warm up and train while soaking up some beautiful sunshine.  It is worth it to plan ahead. In years past, they have been known to sell out of grounds passes, so if you know that you would like to attend, go ahead a grab your tickets. Qualifying starts on March 2 with the Men’s Singles Final is scheduled for March 16th. If you are looking for more information read my blog post about Palm Springs and Indian Wells here.
