Making a Racquet in July 2025

A monthly update for the Tennis Yellow lifestyle.

Welcome to July

Hey tennis lovers!

Hello tennis friends! July is here!  Two special points in my life, Wimbledon is in full swing and it’s officially peak tennis season. Whether you’re hitting on the courts or just soaking up the sunshine from the sidelines, there’s so much to love right now. Looking great both on and off of the court is something that I love about tennis. If you would like to see some seriously chic tennis looks (yes, we’re talking about outfits that work just as well with a racket as they do with a dirty soda in hand) then we have the collection for you to check out. Additionally, I have developed a Hydration Strategy that really helped me beat the heat at this year’s 18 and over USTA Districts matches. And then, you might enjoy my review of Patrick Mouratoglou’s book, “Champion Mindset” if you like reading non-fiction and learning how to be resilient both on and off of the court. Lastly, I am sharing my Wimbledon Dirty Soda with you. It is SO delicious and fun to drink. I will show you what you need and how to make this new take on a timeless tradition. Take a look to see what the month of July has in store for tennis enthusiasts.

Sunshine & Style: Your July Tennis Lookbook

From breezy whites to bold pops of color, July is the time to enjoy pieces that feel fresh, flattering, and fun to wear. Maybe you are heading to a play in a match, watch a match or just channeling sporty-chic energy while grabbing a dirty soda, these looks are made to move with you. I’ve pulled together a collection that captures all the sunny, tennis-loving vibes of July, and you can explore it all at the link below. Because let’s be honest—when you look good, you play good (or at least feel like you do!).

Hydration Strategy

My team advanced to Districts and July really brought the heat. When I saw that the temperatures were going to be as high as 105 degrees, I knew I needed to plan ahead. Even though my matches were sizzling hot tennis matches, I felt like I was hydrated and able to tackle the heat. Leading up to the matches, I had my hydration strategy dialed in and for me, it made all the difference. If you would like to read up on the process I did, I lay it all out for you here – Hydration Strategy for a Weekend Tennis Tournament. All the tips from starting early with fluids and staying up on electrolytes between matches, I was able to keep my energy up and play as best as I could. If you’re playing in the heat, don’t wait until match day to start hydrating. A solid plan can help you play to the best of your ability, even when the temps are soaring.

Spotlight Read:
“Champion Mindset” by Patrick Mouratoglou

Patrick Mouratogolou is a tennis personality that I have followed on social media for several years. I first became aware of him as a coach when he was working with Serena Williams but his story is much more involved than just that one season of life. Mouratoglou’s book is a blend of memoir and self-help while also telling his story of a shy, insecure child to a world‑class coach. The self description of a struggling young boy that would deal with incredible levels of self doubt and lack of confidence ending up in being sick every night before he went to bed was heartbreaking to read about. His love of tennis helped break some of those barriers but not in time to pursue a tennis career of his own. As the child of Greek immigrants living in France, Mouratogolou worked for his father’s successful business but always his love of tennis was in his mind. Mouratogolou teamed up with legendary Australian coach Bob Brett to launch his academy back in 1996 and that partnership lasted for six years. Mouratoglou then took full ownership and rebranded it as the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy.

Mouratogolou was able to draw on decades of experience guiding champions like Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff, and Holger Rune to victory. In his book Mouratoglou describes his philosophy into ten core principles—from building self‑esteem and embracing the “Progress Zone,” to mastering inner language and taking full responsibility for your results. The book is enjoyable because he uses each principle and  illustrates them with his personal stories. In the book, he relates how he can not be there to be your coach, but that as the reader we need to take these actionable exercises and shift our own mindset to unlock your potential. Developing the skills to practice these strategies will help cultivate a champion mindset that can be used in every area of life. You can move beyond your comfort level, harness your inner strength, and become a coach for yourself!

This is a book that tells you to get out of your own way. If you are willing to learn and practice how to build real confidence, to take ownership of your choices, and push yourself just outside your comfort zone, you might be pleasantly surprised at the growth that can happen.  This book gave me some really great principles to explore and just like in the game of tennis, in personal development, there is always something to work on.

Recipe of the Month

Wimbledon Dirty Soda

Strawberries and cream at Wimbledon is a well known tradition. Simple, elegant and oh so proper, fresh strawberries with country cream has been part of the tournament since 1877. I decided to mix it up a bit. I will never say no to the classics, there’s something fun about blending old-school charm with new-school flair. Enter the Wimbledon Dirty Soda. A fun twist on tradition that feels right at home courtside. Because who says you can’t have strawberries, cream, and a splash of soda sparkle?
